The Office of Immigrant Relations will recruit 10 fellows for the 2021 summer New Americans Fellowship (NAF). Fellows will be working with OIR and County mentors on research projects to assess indicators of integration policies, programs, and practices as well as welcoming strategies. 

 Fellows  will work collaboratively and focus on different aspects of integration. They may work on the following elements pertaining to immigrants:

  • ​​Community assessment of welcoming and integration practices
  • Specific indicators of integration
  • Health access to information and services, and COVID-19 impact 
  • LGBTQ and women's access and integration
  • Public safety affecting immigrants
  • Protecting immigrant communities from immigration fraud
  • Civic engagement, community education, and outreach
  • Supporting access to services for limited and non English speaking individuals
  • Financial literacy and navigating access to services​​​
     

To Qualify, All Must Apply

  • Current recipient of Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) with work permit eligibility through the entire length of the fellowship (June 2021 - August 2021)
  • Employment authorization card
  • Currently working, living, or attending school in Santa Clara County
  • Commit to 10 weeks between June and August 2021 
  • Undergraduate, graduate, or recent college graduate
  • Desire to be involved in social justice for the immigrant community
     

Timeline (exact timeline will be determined after applications close)

  • Applications Accepted February 1-March 1, 2021; Application Deadline: March 1, 2021 by 11:59 PM

  • Letter(s) of Recommendation Due: Friday  March 12, 2021
  • Notification of Selection: April 2021
  • Fellowship: 10 weeks between June and August 2021

How to Apply 

  • Complete the application (deadline is March 1, 2021)
  • ​College transcript(s)
  • Provide 1-2 letters of recommendation from individuals or organizations you have worked or collaborated with that can provide insight to your public service activities and leadership skills (due Wednesday March 12, 2021)
  • Writing sample /academic or analytical
